According to Chanel folklore, it was on a beach in France that Gabrielle Chanel first adorned the belt hole of her outfit with a single camellia flower. Affectionately coined ‘the flower of Chanel’ the delicate white petals were pinned to the lapels of men’s suit jackets, a silhouette the designer later adopted for her iconic tweed suits. Legend has it, Chanel’s lover Boy Capel also gifted her fresh camellia blooms, steeping the white floral into the French designer’s heart and brand forevermore.
