My Swiss escapade had developed into an endurance adventure of sorts, but I was in good spirits! I'd driven higher up the mountains to avoid a weather system moving across the country and now sat in glorious sunshine.

This region of Switzerland, known as the Engadine – a high-altitude alpine valley – had its own microclimate.
