RASHER RETIRES Pontefract’s Matthew Bacon, affectionately known as ‘Rasher’, has retired after ten years of non-stop rugby. A centre, he not only played for the Yorkshire One club but also in the summer for Castleford Panthers, a league team, which added up to involvement for 50 weeks a year.

He always played with a smile on his face, took a hit, congratulated his opposite number and then produced a crash tackle in ‘retaliation’, helped his opponent to his feet and enquired if he was okay! His style
