dvice came from one of Australian readers that he’d discovered an Aveling & Porter portable engine located in President’s Park, Springs - an eastern suburb of Johannesburg. He’d been ‘exploring’ various sites on, who has previously provided information which has appeared in the magazine. However, a check was first made in the records regarding the information suppled from Australia in that the caption relating to the portable indicated that it was Aveling & Porter Royalty No. 4422. This somewhat mysteriously turned out to be a 10hp ‘King’ type road loco dispatched on November 4th 1899. The customer was the ‘War Office’ but its eventual destination was not recorded.
