A FAVOURITE PASTIME

Charlie Street originally comes from Fife and was born and raised near the university town of St Andrews.

“My father was a byreman to trade and worked on several farms over the years,” he recalls. “The family moved to Ayrshire when I was five years old. Things were different back then and farms were much smaller. There were lots of dairy holdings, although this has reduced over the years as farms have increased in size.”

Nostalgic

Charlie opted not to follow in his father’s footsteps when he left school, preferring a career in transport. However, he can still recall his early days sitting on a tractor, and particularly recalls an old David Brown Cropmaster.

“When I was three years old, I used to sit with my mother on the tractor’s double seat,” he said. “My father would throw mangels and turnips out the back to feed the cattle, while I pretended to steer the tractor. These were good days, and I still have happy memories.”

Although Charlie chose haulage instead of farming, he always wanted to own a tractor of his own.
