How did you come to work on Beach-Head?

was the launch title for the US Gold joint venture. We (Platinum Productions) had approached Ocean to demo our Spectrum homage to the arcade game and the development team at Ocean were blown away. Ocean didn’t have a licence for on the C64 and revealed their plans to launch US Gold that autumn (1984). The leadership team at Ocean, Jon Woods and David Ward, asked us, “Do you think you can do it for the Spectrum?”, and we were confident we could. It was only later we learned that several other well-known developers had turned it down and Ocean had been advised that it wasn’t possible on a machine as basic as the Spectrum. We went home from Manchester with a C64 under our arms and got to work.
