Racing Ahead
Angela Stevenson: G’day, Matt Hall. Thank you so much for your time.
Matt Hall: That’s all right.
First things first. It's been two years since your Red Bull Air Race World Championship win. Is Matt Hall different given everything that the world has been through this past 18 months? How have you weathered the storm?
I wouldn't say I’m different. It's been very frustrating, as it has for everybody. But all in all I'm still the same person. We’ve still got the same business; we’ve been waiting for things to get going. I keep reminding myself this is a speed bump rather than a massive problem and we’ll get through it. We will be back racing planes and doing joy flights and displays and flying charters.
So are you ready for 2022?
We’ve got everything in place for 2022. We’ve got the race plane woken up again … we’ve had it asleep for 18 months and I’ve been flying it and we're starting to test and develop it ready for the next race season. We’re just started doing the joy flights, and charters are just starting to come back online now.
I want to touch on what, at face value, looks like the most significant change for a competition air race. The World Championship Air Race is promoting itself as eventually being powered by net-zero carbon fuel as part of the global effort to counter climate change.
