Pluto Returns Home
This month, a rare astrological event involving the United States will occur when transiting Pluto reaches the exact position it held in this country’s birth chart on July 4, 1776, marking what is called a Pluto return. In the astrological chart for the United States set for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at 5:10 p.m. LMT, Pluto is in retrograde motion at 27°33’08” Capricorn in the 2nd house. This is of course the house of money, possessions, and banking, but more generally it governs our country’s values, the things we consider most important in our lives. Pluto is opposite Mercury, the planet of the mind and how we communicate to others, and is trine the Midheaven, the cusp of the 10th house, the house of leadership and authority.
The transit of Pluto to the US natal Pluto will last from early February of 2022 until October of 2023, more than a year and a half. During that time we will be looking closely at whether we continue to hold to the values shown in our birth chart, or whether we decide to make some basic changes in those values. One way or another, this Pluto transit will bring some fundamental changes to the American way of life.
