‘It was like a divorce’
KICK OFF: Coach Cavin, thanks a lot for taking time to talk to us. How has it been to be back home?
Cavin Johnson: It’s been two months and it has been good, especially when you have been away from your family for so long. It’s been nice back home with the family – catching up with your children and getting to know them all over again.
How was your experience in Egypt?
It was a fantastic experience. An experience that opened my eyes to a lot of things that I believe that we, as South Africans, can improve on to make us better. Working with Al Ahly, the number one thing for me was to always find out why this team of 107 years is so successful. When you look at it, it has a lot to do with the culture of the people in the country, the culture of what they built and the culture of the next generation, always being mindful of those that have come before. For example, you have the Bibo [Mamoud El Khatib] generation, which was very successful. You have the Mohamed Aboutrika generation, which was also very successful.
