KICK OFF: Chris, how have you adapted to life after retirement?
Chris Katongo: It’s been very good so far. I continued working for a while as a soldier but now I’m completely retired from the army for about four months now. However, I must confess that the COVID-19 pandemic has been a huge issue as it has prevented me from engaging in some of personal matters I planned to establish.
What made you decide to call it a day in the first place?
I suffered a knee injury while still at Wits University and so, when I came back home, I played for a few more months but the knee kept troubling me. I then started attending a few coaching courses to upgrade myself. By then I felt the time had come to stop playing completely. Football has been good to me, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of the time I had been involved. I did not want to end up being forced out of the game that I have given so much to, and which in turn has given me so much.
