The Dick Institute in Kilmarnock holds a modest-looking document on display in the South Museum. On closer inspection you’ll find it to be a handwritten inventory dating from 1819, listing items from the sale of a nearby farm.

This document is the oldest item within the Johnnie Walker Archive collection, recording the sale of the family’s farm after the death of John Walker’s father. This funded the purchase of a grocery store on Kilmarnock’s High Street, which would eventually spawn the world-famous whisky manufacturer Johnnie Walker.
