Feeling 10 again

With Christmas drawing ever closer, and the leaves having fallen off almost all the trees, pigeon shooters suddenly have the opportunity to employ all three of the standard methods for managing the grey grouse. Decoying is a shooting staple throughout the year, while flighting is the second most common way to control birds. But in the depths of winter, roost shooting also comes into play.

Every year as soon as the leaves start to drop, my mind turns to roosting. I’m not one for jumping the gun, but during a busy season — after seeing thousands of pheasants and partridges flying over me — there does come a point where I start to miss the solitary art of pigeon shooting,
