The lowdown: Mini seat belts

eat belts have been fitted to UK Minis from the early 1960s, in fact as soon as seat belt mountings were incorporated into the bodyshell. Back then, front seat belts were an optional extra and, up until 1971, they were fitted by the supplying dealer rather than at the factory. Rear lap seat belts were fitted as standard to Minis from October 1986 but mountings to enable their fitment were incorporated in the saloon bodyshell from 1982. Many belts will have been replaced over the years and, as they get older, many more need replacing all the time. Original replacement belts for all Minis up until around 1990) can help here. However, the original belts will not always be available or in suitable condition; but brand new excellent quality seat belts manufactured by Securon are available from Mini specialists and, although not identical to the original fitments, they do fit in well with the classic interior of a Mini.
