Watching fireworks as they burst across the TV screen, I felt a surge of excitement.
It was 31 December 2019, and me and my mates Jaimie, Jennie and Annie, then 50, had gathered at Jaimie and Jennie’s house.
‘Anything special planned this year?’ Jennie grinned as Big Ben struck midnight.
I laughed, raised my glass. ‘To enjoy life.’
Only, all our hopeful starts to a new decade were dashed by COVID-19 lockdown that March.
