Duikers belong to the subfamily Cephalophinae, which accommodates a particularly large variety of species. Most are restricted to dense forests south of the Sahara Desert and in the Congo basin. In South Africa the red and blue duikers conform to this pattern, inhabiting densely wooded areas. But not the common duiker.
