Striking a Balance

When I was growing up, there was no such thing as balance bikes … not even foot-powered examples. You went from one of those plastic trikes to a poorly designed bicycle with training wheels. These were heavy, clunky, breakable and came in just one size.

I’m pretty sure my brothers, sister and I all learnt to ride on the same one. “Just lift the seat up!” my parents would say. Oh how things have changed, and for the better. Man, what I would do for half the toys kids have access to now! They have a huge variety of toys to play on, but I’ll start with the standard balance bike.
