For much of European history, it was presumed that black swans did not exist, only white ones. A ‘black swan’, arguing that we humans spend the bulk of our time fixated on known facts, categorising and simplifying the specifics of our known existence, and fail to take into consideration what we do not know, or imagining the ‘impossible’. He questions: “Look into your own personal life, to your choice of profession, say, or meeting your mate, your exile from your country of origin, the betrayals you faced, your sudden enrichment or impoverishment. How often did these things occur according to a plan?”
