According to research from Cosmopolitan, the average Brit consumes more than 5,000 calories on Christmas Day! But while eating to excess may be a yuletide tradition, it seems we are wasting just as much food as we are eating. 263,000 turkeys, 7.5 million mince pies and more than 170 tonnes of sprouts end up in landfill sites across the country after Christmas. And with these sites close to capacity, food waste at Christmas is costing the UK a crazy 10 billion pounds a year!
