    The Government has thrown its support behind heat pumps as a greener alternative to gas boilers, with grants of £5,000 being offered to tempt people to switch to the low-carbon alternative. Air source heat pumps extract warmth from the air while a ground source heat pump extracts it from the ground. The unit soaks up the air into a fluid, compresses it and pumps it around radiators and underfloor heating. Heat pumps operate most effectively in energy-efficient homes, so it’s important to ensure your home is well insulated.
