Winter kitpicks

When winter arrives it’s easy to retreat into a world of Zwift, turbo dens and those weird mesh jerseys. But not even the hum of technological innovation can take away the satisfaction of a brisk winter morning on the lanes.

There are many upsides: the roads are quieter, the kit is comfier, the coffee smells sweeter, not to mention the internal glow that comes from finishing a hard ride in grim conditions and feeling like a real tough nut for going out.

This time last winter we were in lockdown, with plenty of reasons to stay at home and finish off the extra Christmas leftovers. But this year – touch wood – we will have the freedom of the outdoors, so we should aim to make the most of it.
