In April 1911, The Motor Cycle ran a story on the opening hill climb of the year with a record entry run by the Oxford Motorcycle Club at Kop Hill, Princess Risborough in Buckinghamshire. It stated that the almost straight climb on a relatively smooth surface devoid of ruts had no equal as an ideal venue, which attracted 142 motorcyclist participants.
