PORCELAIN EWER ca. 1575-87

ARTIST

Daniel Sabaté

SOFTWARE

Maya, Arnold, ZBrush, Substance Painter

This 3D ewer prop, based on a 16th century porcelain jug displayed in), took recent graduate Daniel Sabaté three days to create, with most of that time spent painting many of the parts by hand. “The prop, in general, is quite simple,” he explains. “The only new thing I tested was to work with a higher number of masks to control the base colour. When using Substance Painter, I mainly worked in black and white so I could use it as a mask in Arnold afterwards. This gave me more control in case I needed to modify the colours later. I worked with five different layers in the base colour, so I can alter the colour of the flowers without changing the dust layer.”
