In many of the world’s most popular wildlife hotspots, there’s a problematic species that often runs wild and out of control: humans. Nothing spoils a photo opportunity with a big cat or elephant like safari vehicles or tourists in the background.

This isn’t usually a problem in the remote Arctic, where British wildlife photographer David Gibbon spends much of his time. With hard-to-reach locations and unwelcoming temperatures, the Arctic means no crowds and lots of opportunities to photograph animals against clean, natural backgrounds.
