The great Bobby Haas
Back in 2013, my mate Jeff and I realised a long-held dream and rode Route 66 with California Sunriders. It was a brilliant trip, kicking off on a cold and wet Chicago morning, onto the interstate and heading west into the warmth and sunshine on brand-new Harleys. A few days into the ride, somewhere in Texas, we were joined by a quiet, unassuming American riding a Harley with a sidecar – it was Bobby Haas (Not Forgotten AMCN Vol 71 No 10).
None of our group knew who he was and his modesty didn’t allow him to divulge his amazing achievements to date. We shared the blistering heat of the Mojave desert, thunderstorms in the high sierra around Santa Fe and helicopter rides down into the Grand Canyon.
But it was during the evening, sitting around having a few beers after hours in the saddle, that Bobby revealed his growing interest in all things motorcycle.
