STEAMERS SELL AT CHEFFINS COLLECTIVE
Cheffins offered just on 232 tractors, commercial vehicles, steamers and cars at their 1650-lot sale which was finally concluded on Wednesday 27 October when Sale One, the on-line literature and models section, finished during the afternoon when the last lots were fought over.
The sale saw the largest crowd here, on Saturday 23 October, since Covid-19 has started, which was good news, but many weren’t wearing masks. The sale saw a raft of commercials entered which sometimes are hard to sell, but happily this wasn’t the case this time.
Bill King kicked off the vehicles at 10am with the sale of the lovely 1919 Belsize three-litre 20hp15/20 open tourer SV9204 in grade 5 condition. This Manchester-based manufacturer is remembered for its taxis more than other things and this was a fine, well-documented example that sold on the day for £24,000.
Next up was the late Ted Goldup’s 1967 Morris Minor 1098cc pick-up PPK979E, which I drove decades back. It was new to MF dealers Ben Turner and was a vehicle that Ted knew when new. It was sold from their service in 1971 and was restored in the 90s by Ted. Company vans were OK
