A riot of wild colour combinations and a fabulous array of designs, who wouldn’t feel uplifted being surrounded by glorious African wax prints? For designer, Adaku Parker, these vibrant fabrics are simply part of her everyday life. She says, “There were always wax prints at home. When we went on family holidays to Nigeria, we would buy more to bring back, so over the years we amassed quite a collection.”
No one in the house sewed, so a tailor would transform the cloth into garments to wear to church, weddings, parties and other special occasions. “I used to cut out photographs from magazines to show the tailor how I wanted my outfits to look, and they
