Automobiles did not invent themselves. That was done by men behind the motorcars. More appropriately stated, the men behind the steering wheel of those cars, actually and figuratively.

The “actual” part was proved in the purchase and pleasing performance of automobiles in the first 25 or so years of the industry. In general, a good number of car brands and models gained quick reputations for being great. Others gained infamy by being stinkers. Nobody wanted a stinker, so those cars quickly faded from society. It was the “greats” that labored on. There were some cars in yet a third category we could label “hopefuls,”
