Anyone who has ever tried to remove a gear from a tapered shaft knows there are typically two outcomes: it either pops straight off with no drama or will fight you to the bitter end. Well on this occasion, it was only just warming up for a good fight when I realised the threaded section on the stainless steel shaft was bending, totally scuppering any chance of getting the gear off.
