MARY’S LOVE STORY

As the teacher beckoned me over, my heart sank.

Have I done something wrong? I thought, nervously.

‘I’ve got some good news, Rose,’ she told me. ‘We’ve chosen you to play Mary in the Nativity this year!’

I was only six, but everyone knew this was such an honour.

‘Wow!’ I beamed.

I’d been an angel before, but this was a serious promotion.

Living in a tiny village, my school – Sixpenny Handley First School – mixed all the years together.

It meant that when Christmas rolled around and the Nativity was in production, children from all year groups were involved.
