Who are classed as ‘motor traders’, asks Peter.

I’ve been following a conversation on one of the car-related Facebook groups of which I’m a member. It started with a simple-enough question: “Does anyone know what classes you as a trader to the DVLA?”

The questioner went on to explain that though he was only 20, he’d already owned 19 cars. He wasn’t, however, a trader – he was simply an enthusiast who liked to own and ‘experience’ particular cars for a month or three. He wanted to know how to “avoid complications with DVLA.”

This is quite an important consideration, though
