BEFORE YOU BEGIN:

Of all the projects we have produced in our 57 issues of ClayCraft, this may well be the most challenging simply because of the handling nature of porcelain and the incredibly thin slabs the boxes are made from. But, I promise, you will be so thrilled when you have made them. The key to success lies in understanding the correct stage of handleability of the clay and taking extra care when scoring and slipping – attention to detail is everything because the joins are not reinforced in any way.

In addition, it is vitally important that your working space and all tools and equipment are spotlessly clean to avoid contaminating the white of the porcelain, and finally, that you follow the instructions meticulously.

YOU WILL NEED:

Porcelain
Rolling pin, plastic sheet, 2 or 3mm thick roller guides
Wooden tools/ribs for constructing
Pin
Card/foam board for templates

Make up your templates from the given drawings on page 47, in either card or foam sheet.

The numbers in each outlined shape show the number of sections you need to cut out for the back and face of each box, plus the lids.
