Balancing on the bed, I juggled the curtains draped over my arm.
It was the first Sunday our family had been home for weeks. My husband John, then 46, and I ran a cleaning business. We spent any free time canoeing with the kids Jess, then 18, Ash, 13, and Ethan, seven.
But this weekend, in June 2014, I’d finally washed the dusty curtains. Reaching towards the curtain pole, I teetered precariously on the edge of the bed.
