When this family of four exquisite grey-crowned cranes landed in front of me while I was on an early morning walk around my estate in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, I couldn’t believe my luck. I approached slowly, lay down on my belly and watched their colourful interactions. As they walked past a dark background with early morning rays filtering from behind, I took as many frames as possible in the hope of creating some memorable “low key” photographs.
