‘COAL 21’ in ‘OO’ gauge
IN response to a need for further coal haulage capacity following the nationalisation of the railways, a programme of mineral wagon construction commenced, starting with huge numbers of 16-ton mineral wagons of various types. Further increases in capacity within trains of a given length were sought, resulting in the building of 21-ton mineral wagons with features similar to 16-ton minerals. A batch of 1000 unfitted riveted bodied 21-ton wagons to Diagram No. 1/110 was built by Metro Cammell in 1950 and 1951, wagons outside the scope of this review (Nos. B200000-200999).
