CHESTER Zoo is the most visited wildlife attraction in the UK with nearly two million visitors a year. When the founder, George Mottershead, opened his small collection of birds and animals to the public in 1931, he could never have dreamed that his nine acres would expand into today’s 130 acres with another 30 acres off-exhibit. Three years later, he founded the North of England Zoological Society, which runs the zoo.
