Connan Mockasin Jassbusters Two
ot since has a fictional band sounded so good and so real. But that’s no surprise when New Zealand’s psychedelic indie-pop, is decidedly more languid, hazy and dreamy. A true master at creating surreal, psychedelic soundscapes that also sound familiar, cosy and warm, Mockasin is at it again here, inviting us all to sink deep into his imagined world and cosy up in the lush, snug and inviting interiors that he creates. Woozy guitar lines, shuffling drums, warm bass, delicate vocals, analogue fuzz and delicious electronics drift and meander throughout an album that lingers with a soft, loving touch. The spirit of improvisation is still there, manifesting itself in the woozy, bendy excursions that trip the mind. Like all of Mockasin’s work, is playful, sensuous and intimate. It cloaks the listener in a slowly rolling cloud of molten, dreamy sounds like a warm hug when you haven’t fully woken up yet. When listening to , you’ll hope you never fully wake up again.
