A TASTE OF HOME
If you are aware that Samoan-New Zealander Monica Galetti is a chef, it’s probably because you have seen her on television. She has been a judge on the UK series of MasterChef: The Professionals since 2009; she has also co-presented the globetrotting series Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby with funny-man/journalist Giles Coren for the past four years.
As a familiar TV face, she is constantly asked if she will do any of the myriad other shows populated by celebrities. Strictly Come Dancing? “Many times.” I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!? “Yes, yes, that, too.” To these and all the others, the answer is always no, no, no. As she says, “You do these things if you just want to be on TV, but it’s different for me – I only wanted to be a chef.” And, for all that TV may have helped, being the consummate kitchen professional is still her motivation.
