Q&A SHORE ANGLING

Q I am thinking of going back to using a multiplier to increase my casting distance. I have used a multiplier in the past but got birdsnests at least once a session, which I put it down to line lay. What is the best way to put new line on a multiplier because I always seem to have line twist when I’ve respooled?

JM says: Switching from a fixed-spool reel to a multiplier in order to cast greater distances is a common misconception made by many sea anglers. Working on a better casting technique will improve your distance and it’s actually easy to cast a fixed-spool reel, particularly when you are an angling beginner.

Line-lay is a big cause of birdsnests when using a multiplier reel, along with how fast your reel is running. Your choice of multiplier should also be a careful
