SHAKEN, NOT STIRRED

e’ve gone all carpe diem on Bond at Classic Boat lately. – the film the world was waiting for throughout the pandemic (2006) in which he sailed a Spirit 54. We were up at Spirit not long ago, having a sail on their new 30 – their first open dayboat. More in the next issue. Meanwhile, who can forget the boat chase in Sean Connery’s second Bond movie – (1963)? We were out on a restored Fairey Huntsman 28 this summer, the boat from that film. The Bond boat chases got better and better after that, in (1973), (1979), (1999) and (2008), but there was never any boat with the same class as the iconic Huntsman. And if you don’t like Bond or motorboats, our cover this month, German Frers’ new yacht, is a true one-off, built to his father’s 1940s design and never built until this year. It’s stunning boat, and it’s great to see the rare ketch rig.
