uch is written about the art of laying an anchor. Quite right too, but what about getting it back on board? These days, most boats above a certain size feature a windlass, often electric, which makes mincemeat of the job. It’s the smaller craft that demand real skill. Foredecks with room for the luckless crew to lean aft and pull with their thighs as much as their arms are rare.
