Idenitfying the clues in a Victorian British army officer’s photograph

believe this photograph is Francis Robert Butt (1840-73) who was the older brother of my great grandfather, Philip Butt. The photographer’s name on the mount is Elliot & Fry. According to family notes Francis attended the East India College Addiscombe, Surrey, 1846-47 and is listed on the Bengal Army records 1850-58. He also rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Royal Artillery. I presume the photograph dates
