The national minimum wage: a balancing act like no other

Every year, the National Minimum Wage Commission, which consists of independent experts as well as organised business, labour and community representatives, conducts a review of the national minimum wage (NMW) and makes recommendations to the Minister of Employment and Labour.

As anyone in the agriculture sector knows, last year this process led to the minister increasing the NMW across the board by 4,5%, but also raising the wage for the agriculture increase of 16,1%.
