ISLANDS REGIONAL GUIDE

INTRODUCTION

Sicily is the southernmost of all the Italian regions and is served by airports at Palermo, Catania, Trapani and Comiso. The summers are hot and it stays pleasant through winter. There are several Blue Flag beaches, UNESCO World Heritage sites, and Etna, its famous volcano.

Sardinia is Italy’s fourth least-populated region. The most densely populated areas are around Olbia, Cagliari and Alghero, with sparser settlement inland. The island’s biggest draw is its sandy beaches and sapphire sea. Flights run from the UK to Olbia, Alghero and Cagliari.
