Disease-free buffalo genetics
Dr Deon de Jager is a conservation geneticist interested in understanding how the present-day genetic diversity of African ungulates was shaped by past climatic changes and recent human impact, and how to effectively manage and conserve these species, from a genetic standpoint, for long-term persistence in a rapidly changing world. His PhD, completed at the University of Pretoria, assessed the genetic and genomic diversity of Cape buffalo in southern Africa.
