IMITATION GOOD OR BAD

It is probably safe to say that every single musician who has ever lived has tried to imitate the work of other musicians who have inspired them. No one exists in a vacuum, and most musicians can point to specific people and credit them with being an influence.

The tradition of emulating the greats is an important one, and it’s this conscious act of connection that often inspires people to start playing an instrument and embark on a lifelong journey of furthering their skills. And while this is a wonderful thing, there is also a potential risk of sounding contrived or cliché when you imitate someone else.
