Timothy O’Bryan, 8, peered out of the window and felt a pang of excitement. It was 31 October 1974 – Halloween.
Local kids were dressed up as pumpkins, skeletons or ghosts.
And Timothy couldn’t wait to join them in his Planet of the Apes costume.
Timothy’s dad Ronald, then 30, and their neighbour Jim Bates had promised to take him trick or treating.
Ronald was a well-respected optician in their hometown of Deer Park, Texas, as well as deacon of the local baptist church, where he sang in the choir.
