mong Adirondack guides, Joe Hackett has been a one-of-a-kind figure over the past 40 years. Maybe more. Until he hung up his trademark felt hat and badge a year ago to retire and spend more time with his wife, Maria, grown daughters, Willow and Meadow, and grandchildren, Rose and Xavier, Joe may well have stood on the summit of his profession in the region. He was best known as a fishing guide, but he can do everything: fly-fishing, spin-fishing, hooks and worms, hiking, natural history, camping, paddling, storytelling and more. Joe most loved introducing families with kids to simple outdoor fun, but he covered the glamorous side of the profession, too. He was de facto guide-in-chief at the Adirondacks’ most exclusive resort, The Point, as well as a major player at the Lake Placid Lodge, the Ausable Club,
