What is Cop26?

For almost three decades, world governments have met nearly every year to forge a global response to the climate emergency. Cop stands for conference of the parties, and the annual meetings have swung between fractious and soporific, interspersed with triumph (the Paris agreement in 2015) and disaster (Copenhagen in 2009). The 26th iteration, postponed by a year because of the pandemic, will be hosted by the UK in Glasgow.
