A simple modular mould for use with Hi-Tek coated bullets
After cooling, it is sized and lubed in readiness to shoot. Traditional cast bullets have lube grooves cast into them, which is why the mould is made in two halves. When bullets are designed to be paper patched, however, lube grooves are no longer required. Jacketed and, more recently, copper-plated bullets also do not require lube grooves.
Lube grooves
By applying J&M Specialized Products’ Hi-Tek bullet lube, lube grooves are similarly not required on these bullets, meaning it is now possible to make plain bullets. After coating with this newer product and sizing, we end up with bullets similar to those with jackets.
Discussions with colleague John Moore, who also enjoys making tools, led me to experiment with straight line bullet moulds made, in my case, by boring the cavity directly into a single piece of aluminium in the
