2021/22 should be a cracker! That leg's now secure enough on uneven ground to get back onto the type of river I prefer; and if I've learnt anything over the years it's the slower you move the more fish you spot and the more deliberately, the fewer you spook. So with 'rewired' mobility pushing 69, I've decided to spend the remainder of my river flyfishing the way I prefer – as close to the origins of the sport as possible – casting a single weightless fly at sighted fish, close enough to see how each reacts. Aesthetically, casting a low rated fly rod loaded with a single weightless fly just feels RIGHT, as does giving each fish a fair go. Practically, few rivers up here
